Do name brands (i.e. MAC, Smashbox, etc.) matter when it comes to buying make-up tools?
I am new to using make-up such as liquid foundation and powdery (if that’s what it’s called lol) eyeshadow, so I’m very interested in knowing if brand-name make-up application tools are the best. I’d also like some advice on what to look for when choosing the right brushes/sponges for my make-up. Thanks!
Not really as long as the make up doesn’t have any oils in it or anything you should be fine and just make sure you don’t apply the make up on with your hands because your hands have a lot of bacteria and oils that can cause you to break out
You don’t necessarily need “brand name” makeup tools. If you’re a beginner with the tools, go with some cheaper ones to begin with until you really get a hang of it. But you do get what you pay for, for the most part. Generally, the more expensive the brush, the longer it will last and it’s made from better material. You can go to any beauty supply store (such as Sally’s) and get some pretty good brushes there. I like natural brushes better, they don’t fray as badly and they clean off pretty well. Of course there are different types of brushes, I personally like a fan brush for blush but I don’t have one at the moment so i kind of squash my brush when I apply blush and I love smaller slanted brushes to add dimension with powdered eye shadow. If you don’t know what certain brushes are for whoever is working at the supply (or makeup) store should be able to tell you.
As far as sponges go, I like the little triangle ones the best. I’ve used them for stage makeup, which was Ben Nye cream (nasty gunk, stage makeup!), but I use them with my liquid as well to blend it and it works just fine.
MAC and Sigma brushes are best.
I’ve used both expensive and inexpensive makeup brushes, and in my experience the expensive ones last longer. You don’t need an expensive makeup brush to put on your makeup correctly, but if you’d like to make the investment high-end makeup brushes can last decades. My favorite brand is NARS.
if i were you i would look into the ELF brand make up tools.
they’re very cheap and very accessible.
you can get them at target.
i think most brushes range from $0.99-$3.00
that’s all i use and they work great. also durable.
I personally looove MAC, but for someone who’s on a budget, you can get really good cheap brands in Safeway or Raley’s or CVS or any other drug store. All you need to start off with is a powder, concealer, and blush brushes. You CAN use your hands for foundation and eye makeup as long as you wash or use hand-sanitizer(I recommend hand-sanitizer, seeing as it’s quick). The brushes sometimes come together in packs for around $15.00, making this quite affordable. I recommend the “Green” kind. It’s made with all natural fibers and a bamboo handle, and the actual hairs of the brush are incredibly soft. Even if you can’t find those, there are plenty of awesome brushes for cheap
out there.
Good luck!!
The quality of the tools you use makes a HUGE difference when you’re applying your makeup. Although you don’t necessarily need to spend tons of cash on mac brushes, you need to know what to look for. Now if you can afford mac or other high end brushes go ahead and buy them they’re a great investment and they work very well. Sigma brushes are the next best thing to mac. They’re not as good as mac, but they’re nice for the price. If you’re on a budget you can get some nice brushes at your local drugstore. EcoTools makes brushes that are very soft and inexpensive. Sonia Kashuk brushes are sold at Target and they’re also very popular and nice quality. When you go to buy a brush, you always want to feel it. It should be soft to the touch and not scratchy or rough. The handle should be sturdy and the ferule shouldn’t be cheap or loose. My biggest tip is, do your research. Know your brush. In order to maximize the the potential of your brush, you need to know what it does and how to use it.
